Doggin It

Well, as promised, here's an update on the Rover dog trailer. The trailer arrived last Wednesday, only two days after I placed my order. I was so excited that I put the trailer together right away (minimal assembly required) and started introducing Rhea to the idea. Since then, each day I've had her spend a little more time in the trailer. At first I just had her sit in it for a couple of minutes at a time. Then I started taking her on the road -- around the block, then two blocks the next day, 12 minutes yesterday, and.... today we went all the way to the trailhead, 3 miles away!! She doesn't seem to mind at all. Today I pulled the trailer with my mountain bike, locked the trailer at the trailhead, went for a mountain bike ride with the dog running alongside, then put her back in the trailer and headed for home. Pulling a 65 pound dog with all the rolling resistance of knobby tires was a little bit of a challenge, but certainly doable and it will only get easier with time. By the end of the Summer I hope to be taking her to more distant trailheads to go hiking. Sweet!!
